On Tuesday 25 January 2022, UNFPA Iran held their annual steering committee meeting, jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the permises of the ministry.

The session was attended by implementing parters and stakeholders from the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare, the State Welfare Organization and the National Secretariat for Older Persons, the Statistical Center of Iran, University of Tehran, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Iran's Red Crescent Society.

The meeting looked at the achievements of 2021, the next UNFPA Country Programme (2023-2027) and the workplans of 2022.

During the meeting, Mr. Javad Safaei, Head of Division of International Specialized Agencies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that "UN specialized agencies are here per country’s invite to support country’s programmes", and pointed out the "good chance to work more on south-south cooperations".

At the end of the fruitful discussions, Dr Sathya Doraiswamy, UNFPA representative in Iran emphasized the role of partnership for UNFPA with the government of Iran, and all parties agreed to work on facilitating futute cooperations for 2022.
