In line with UNFPA’ s commitment to support the Government in harnessing the demographic dividend and achieving inclusive growth, young people remain a target group in our interventions. Furthermore, inadequate HIV prevention among youth and populations at higher risk of infection is shared as a major concern  The HIV epidemic in the country remains concentrated among people in vulnerable situations. In 2021, it was estimated that 58.1 percent of people living with HIV contracted the virus through drug injection and 23.9 percent were infected through sexual transmission.  Studies recommend the need to support the Government’s policies for improving life skills among youth.

UNFPA supports the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare, and the Ministry of Health and Medical Education in enhancing opportunities for young people.  More specifically, our programme aims at supporting the provision of life skills training and counseling on healthy family relationships to young people as a way to improve employability and foster intergenerational solidarity; as well as supporting the capacity of national partners in offering innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people.
