UNFPA in Iran

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)  is the United Nations Sexual and Reproductive Health Agency. Our mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

UNFPA’s assistance to Iran started in the 1970s on a project-by-project basis and was followed by six full-fledged country programmes since 1990. We are currently implementing our seventh country programme (2023-2027), in line with national priorities and close partnership with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and other stakeholders.

We look at our work through an intergenerational lens, where we believe that investment in young people and young girls leads to healthy adulthood and healthy aging-preparing the grounds for the realization of human development and economic growth. Together with our partners, we strive to strengthen sexual and reproductive health systems; empower pregnant women, women, girls, and young people, and advocate for older persons and people living with a disability.  Our interventions are backed by quality data and evidence.

You can read more about our work under the “What We Do” section.
