Remarks by Dr. Leila Joudane, UNFPA Representative in Iran, on the occasion of Internatioal Women's Day and National Women's Day in Iran
Charity Grand Prix Alpine Skiing Competition, Tehran, Iran, March 2, 2019

I would like to congratulate all women and especially Iranian women on both occasions of Iranian Mother’s Day and International Women’s Day.

I’d like to grab this opportunity to announce that we are celebrating the 50 years of UNFPA work, serving women and girls. At the same time, I’m pleased to announce that this year is the 25th anniversary of the revolutionary International Conference on Population and Development of Cairo 1994 which has led to many remarkable achievements for women and girls around the world. However, it can’t be overlooked there are still millions of women and girls who have not benefited the promise of ICPD. That’s why we need to reenergize our efforts, more than ever, to make sure SRHR for all women and to leave no one behind by the end of 2019. So, let’s stand up for better life of women and girls and give them the power of choice.

Today we have good examples of powerful ladies who gain the competition; Sport is one of the best ways to show women determination to participate on the sustainable development of the society. Congratulations to all the winners.
